Spread the truth:

Claims: A video showing an injured minor boy is making rounds on social media with false claims that Varanasi’s police tried to kill that child from a local mosque. The minor can be seen heinously bleeding from head and nose. Upon asking him who is responsible for the injuries, the boy blames the police.

However, this is an old video from Uttar Pradesh during the anti- Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protests that turned violent on December 20, 2019.

The video shared is graphic in nature.

This old video was retweeted almost 2,000 times and viewed 24,900 times.

The caption read, “#Indian_Muslims_in_danger #UNHCR #islamophobia_in_india #Kashmir * This shocking video of the Yogi Police in Varanasi (UP), how the children of the mosque and school were killed mercilessly, and showed the entire world what is happening in India * * Share please *”

The viral video shows an injured minor boy is from Uttar Pradesh’s Bijnor district during the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protests that turned violent on December 20, 2019. The violence during these protests led to police lathicharging people which claimed around 11 lives in the state.

Through keyword searches, same video was found on Facebook shared along with several other footage from the protests of Bijnor.

The archive can be seen here.

Local news channels in a video format also mentioned about the allegations of police lathicharging several children as well after the anti-CAA protests turned violent in Jalalabad area on December 20, 2019.

According to a news article from NDTV, Bijnor, 161 km from Delhi, was one of the UP districts that saw large-scale violence. Two people were killed during the protests there on December 20 last year, and the cops have admitted that one of those who died took a police bullet. This is the only admission of a death from police firing by the cops across the state. It also said, “A court in Bijnor granted bail to 48 people accused by the state police of rioting and attempted murder during the protests.”

Hence, the video claimed to be of a minor coming from mosque recently is falsely shared and it is from last year.
