The viral video of an empty nebulizer being an alternate to Oxygen cylinders is misleading and dangerous.
A video is viral, with a man claiming himself to be a doctor and teaching a trick, shows use of a nebulizer without any medicine for the people running around/ ready to pay any price for Oxygen cylinders.
He introduces himself as Dr. Alok, says he is disturbed with the chaos among people running for Oxygen, followed by telling us of a trick. At 30 Seconds, he says that nebulizer is used for certain medicines but NONE is needed in this trick. At 53 seconds he emphasizes “No need of pouring any medicine at all“
This video is quite viral, many are forwarding to each other thinking of this as a help to save people during this COVID pandemic.
The man claiming himself as as doctor, sitting beside a hospital bed sounds very convincing so people have believed it.

Completely misleading and dangerous. Nebulizer works only with liquid medicine because it’s merely a drug delivery device.
First of all, The uniform the self-claimed Dr, is wearing has a logo of Sarvodaya Hospital in Faridabad.
The official verified Facebook page of the hospital has denied the viral video to be true and warned against it.

Secondly we need to know how a nebulizer works.
Nebulizer is a machine with motor and fan to which a mask is connected with pipes.
It’s only purpose is to turn a liquid medicine e.g. Duolin, Foracort ‘repsules’ to aerosol/fine droplets/mist which via inhalation, reaches our lungs fast and start working.
Nebulizer does the same work as an Inhaler like Asthalin/Foracort but much faster.

He starts with talking about people running for Oxygen, ready to pay any price. But these people are the ones whose relatives/friend are in desperate need/in ICU, So this Nebulizer trick can not be used at all for such people.
So without a Liquid, the nebulizer is of no use at all.
Mind you, the man in the video is giving advice to people in dire need of Oxygen who are running around, ready to pay any price. If they really believe this person, they might loose their life.
