Translation: In Ramayan’s Doha (phrase) no. 120, it is written that when the condemnation increases on the earth, the sins will increase, and then the bats will spread and diseases related to them will spread all over. In Doha no. 121, it is written that for an illness in which humans will die, the only cure would be to worship God and staying in one place (meditation), which means the lock down.

TRUTH

The text in the accompanying picture a part of the 120th Doha of the Ramcharitra Manas’s Uttar Kand. It was written by Tulsi Das. The first few lines of the text can be translated as:

Original Text:हर गुर निंदक दादुर होई। जन्म सहस्त्र पाव तन सोई।।
द्विज निंदक बहु नरक भोग करि। जग जनमइ बायस सरीर धरि।।

Hindi Translation:शंकर जी और गुरु की जोह निंदा करता है वह अगले जनम मैं मेंढक का रूप धराड़ करता है और अगले हज़ार जनम तक वही रूप लेता है। भ्रमांडों की निंदा करने वाला अगले जनम मैं कौए का रूप लेता है।

English Translation:He who criticizes Lord Shiva and the Gurus, returns as a frog in his next life and takes this same form for the next 1000 lives. He who criticizes Brahmans takes the form of a crow in the next life.

Original Text:

English Translation: The proud creature that criticizes the Gods and the Vedas is condemned to go to Hell. The people who are engaged in criticizing Saints are owls. The night devoid of knowledge is more beloved to them and the sun of wisdom has been set for them.

Original Text: सब के निंदा जे जड़ करहीं। ते चमगादुर होइ अवतरहीं।।
सुनहु तात अब मानस रोगा। जिन्ह ते दुख पावहिं सब लोगा।।

Hindi Translation: जोह मुर्ख मनुष्ये सबकी निंदा करते हैं, वह चमगादड़ होकर जनम लेते हैं। हे तात अब मानस रोग सुनिए, जिससे सब लोग दुःख पाया करते हैं।

English Translation: The foolish human that criticizes everyone, takes the form of a bat in the next life. Hey father, listen to the diseases of the mind now, which bring sorrow to everybody.

Original Text: मोह सकल ब्याधिन्ह कर मूला। तिन्ह ते पुनि उपजहिं बहु सूला।।
काम बात कफ लोभ अपारा। क्रोध पित्त नित छाती जारा।।

Hindi Translation: सब रोगों की जड़ मोह हैं। उन व्याधियों से फिर और बहोत से शूल उत्पन्न होते हैं। काम वात (हवा) है, लोभ अपार कफ है और क्रोध पित्त है जोह सदा छाती जलाता रहता है।

English Translation: The root to all illness is infatuation, which then branches out to several more. Lust is a counterpart of the wind, and inordinate greed corresponds to an excess of phlegm while anger represents bile, which constantly burns the chest.

  • Through this translation, it can be established that Tulsidas has condemned the non-believers and criticizers of faith to take the form of several animals in the next life.
  • The people who are known to criticize everybody will take the form of bats in the next life, according to the text.
  • Furthermore, he has mentioned several illnesses but he compared them with the shortcomings of the human mind and is not talking about the current pandemic or corona virus.
  • Even though a disease that will kill humans is mentioned, it is no way connected to bats in the text.

Hence, it has been proven that the while a mention of bats is definitely made in the text, it is in no way related to the current pandemic. While disease and illness have also been mentioned in the text, they actually point towards the ill-effects of human greed and envy.
