Did they change the religion of the Acid attack convict in Chhapaak ?
Bollywood actress @DeepikaPadukone visited students of JNU who were hurt in the violence which led to the hashtag “#BoycottChhapaak” trending.
Chhapaak is a movie releasing tomorrow, based on the life of a acid attack victim, Laxmi Aggrawal, attacked in 2005 by Naeem Khan. She later fought the case which can be read here
Following this, a ‘news’ is viral that in the movie, the makers have changed the religion of the convict. They changed the name of character of Naeem Khan to Rajesh Sharma.
Swarajya published an article (Their tweet has been deleted and article updated) with following headline
“The main accused in Lakshmi’s acid case was Naeem Khan but he is said to have been named “Rajesh” in Deepika’s movie”
The URL of the updated article is still the original one, only the contents have been changed. While the URL has Rajesh, it’s no where in the article.

Truth
No, the religion of the convict hasn’t been changed, only the name. From Naeaam Khan aka Guddu, it’s been changed to Bashir Khan aka Babboo.
Rajesh is the name of boyfriend of acid attack victim Malti (Laxmi in real life)
Abhinandan Sekhri, Co-Founder of an online news portal News Laundary claimed that he saw the screening of the movie and the relgion of the attacker was not changed.
He quoted the false tweet of Swarajya, which they deleted, but you can see it’s archived version here
