Aircraft simulation video shared as recent PIA crash
A clip extracted from an aircraft simulation game is being peddled on various social media platforms with a false claim that the video shows the actual Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight PK 8303 crash in Karachi on May 22, 2020.
The footage clearly demonstrates a flying airplane with PIA branding on a portion of the aircraft. Radio conversation can too be heard in the background along with the landing of the same with various angles of the same crashing into an open field. The 34-minute long video has been cropped in many viral posts and consists of a caption that reads “PIA Airplane Crashed Today In Karachi Real Video”.

If you carefully watch these videos, you will see there is a yellow watermark given on the top of the video which reads “2016 runsame”. This clearly depicts that the video is from 2016 and has nothing to do with the recent PIA crash as it took place in 2020.
The word “Runsame” written on the video led us to a Youtube Channel of the same name which uploads aviation-related footage for its subscribers. Not only this, but must of the videos that it produces have a combination of a few videos played on loop which extends the overall duration of the clip and easily makes it an hour or two long.
The video that people are viewing on social media platforms from 2006 is also a product of the same. One footage is being played on loop and that is how the video has become a long one. This viral video is a production of Runsame channel on Youtube which has been culled from footage of an airplane simulator game that clearly shows an aircraft landing and then crashing into an open field.
The video has been named ‘Extreme Crash PIA ATR 42 Flight 661 Islamabad’ and was uploaded on December 10, 2016. The description attached to the same reads “All crashes are no real plane crashs, real one are terrible. This here is just for entertainment.”
But this is not all. The video going viral is not entirely a product of the video mentioned above, but also from another video uploaded by the same channel. On looking at the viral video carefully, you will see that it is a combination of both the videos, the one given above and the following:
To prove this claim false, we must also acknowledge the fact that the Karachi plane crash took place in a residential area and this aircraft crash depicts a crash taking place in an open field.
Following is the correct video of the crash:
