2016’s image of an injured woman goes viral for the fourth time now
Claim: Photographs of an injured woman on the streets with police around, goes viral on social media targeting the The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government for lack of accomplishment of women security via ‘Beti Bachao’.
The images showed an injured woman on streets with her daughter and policemen.
The caption along with the images says, “यही है मोदी सरकार बेटी बचाओ, इतना shaer करो की इसको इसकी सज़ा मिले जाये”
Translated to English: This is modi government save daughter Share it so much that it will be punished
However, this is not the first time these images are going viral. The incident happened in 2016 and has been showing up on social media platforms since. It went viral in 2016, 2018, 2019 and now, in 2020.
Facebook users started sharing this image in 2020, (with the same caption as before), targeting the BJP government. The images were shared in interval for three months of February, March and April. However, it went viral in April.
It was shared on Facebook groups as well. One of them called ‘सीमा कुमारी गुरुप’had posted the images on 19th April 2020 and gained 11,000 shares. In 2020, this image was shared in.

The images went very viral in 2019 during protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act. That time few posts about the image were shared almost 47,000 times. That particular post was made on 10th December 2019.
These images had made rounds on Facebook in 2018 as well with provocative captions against Modi.
The same images were also shared on Twitter on different timelines which includes June 2019, December 2019 and also November 2018.
TRUTH
These images have gone viral on social media almost 4 different times now including when the incident happened in 2016.
After doing a reverse image search, a report from 2016 was found which was published by Scoop Whoop. It mentioned that the incident occurred on 19th December 2016, woman Vandana Tiwari, along with her husband Ashwin Tiwari, was beaten up in public after she resisted molestation. The incident took place on December 19, 2016, in Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri when miscreants passed lewd comments are tried to grope the woman. This article credited the report to the news agency ANI.
Another report posted on 22nd December, 2016 by NDTV says that while the mobile phone videos were taken by witnesses, it is apparent that no one tried to help the woman and her husband, who was also assaulted and one of the attacker was arrested.
ANI UP also tweeted about the same on 22nd December 2016 that the culprit was arrested and action being taken against all accused including policemen.

Hence, the images and the video shared on social media platforms which went viral four different times was originally shot in December 2016 in Uttar Pradesh.
