A video of Lightning striking a river is actually a controlled explosion under the river.

Spread the truth:

An old clip of a 2012 video showing a fully controlled explosion by a Finnish water engineering company is now being shared with the false claim that it shows a bolt of lightning strike a river. The clip is shared with a caption in Hindi- *किसी नदी मे बिजली गिरने का अद्भुत दृश्य आपने नही देखा होगा तो देखिये* which when translated it to English reads, “If you have not seen the wonderful sight of lightning falling in a river, then see it.” The video is being circulated in the false claim and is being shared on various platforms that can be seen below-

This was an undermining blast, not a lightining

While getting more information about the video, we broke the video into various key-frames, performed a google reverse image search. We found a similar video from 2012 that claimed was a controlled explosion by Finnish water engineering company Rannikon Merityö. A similar video was uploaded by the company on its Youtube channel namely Rannikon Merityö on 12 December. Below the video, the description clearly states “In this video, we deepen the waterway“. We searched for the official website of the company Rannikon Merityö to double-check the authenticity of the video.

The same video is also uploaded on its official website.

The description above the video clarifies that the video is about underwater mining and blasting.

UNDERWATER MINING ALWAYS TURN TO AN EXPERT IN UNDERWATER EXCAVATION AND BLASTING

Excavation and construction work for beaches and underwater rock in and around the Turku archipelago. Underwater excavation lowers the height of a rock surface in a lake, sea, or other body of water. Before starting the excavation work, a plan for the excavation and blasting work is made so that everything is carried out safely. Rock excavation in a body of water is a licensed activity and may require a permit from the Regional State Administrative Agency (AVI).

WHAT IS UNDERWATER MINING SUITABLE FOR?

Underwater mining is used to rehabilitate beaches and waterways and to establish sea signs. In addition, the dredging, construction, and maintenance of waterways will be carried out through excavation and blasting work. Excavation is carried out by placing an underwater special explosive in the boreholes, which is immersed in the holes drilled in the rock. Customers can include private customers, ports, and marinas. You can read more about permit issues on the Environmental Administration’s website.
