Viral video claiming a heavy hailstorm in Chattisgarh is false

A video has been viral claiming that there was a major hailstorm in Chattisgarh, India. The video shows hailstorms falling  in a field quite violently. The video has been shared extensively on social media.

One particular user who shared the video is Awanish Sharan, an IAS officer who is posted in Kabirdham, Chattisgarh. The video was retweeted for over 1.5K times.

After doing a Google Reverse Image search of the screenshots of the viral video, the video was uploaded on YouTube on 23rd April, 2020 a few days before the video went viral.The video tags the location as Cao Bang in Vietnam.

 

 

It was also shared on Twitter by a different user on 24th April, 2020 with the same location, much before the storm happened in India.

A local Vietnamese also published also reported on the story on April 24th, showing a clip of the video.

 

 

Therefore, the claim that the viral video is from Pendra, Chattisgarh is false. It is to be noted that the Indian region saw rainfall, but the viral video is not. It is uncertain as to when the actual video was shot, but it was certainly way before the bad weather in the region of India, and is not from Chattisgarh.
