Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar is alive and recovering, False media reports went viral.

Since Mayor Kishori Pednekar was admitted to the hospital on 17th July after experiencing chest pain, reports of her death went viral on social media.

India Today, on July 18,2021, inaccurately reported that Kishori Pednekar, Mayor of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC),died at 58 years old at the hospital where she was admitted for treatment. From that point onward, various post got circled via social media asserting the demise of the Mayor because of the third wave of Covid-19.

TRUTH

Kishori Pednekar has exposed the fake report made by India Today and tweeted a report on her well being on July 18,2021. In the tweet, she stated: “I am very much alive and taking treatment at the Global Hospital. Also, FYI ate Dal Khichdi some time back”.

She criticized the media house by asking them that they confirm the data prior to putting them out. “I am sure as a leading media group you all are aware of basic Journalistic principles. Please bother to verify such news. That’s the least one can expect,” she included in the tweet.

India Today’s editorial manager gave a statement of regret. Replying to Mayor’s tweet, India Today tweeted, “We deeply regret this grievous error and have taken suitable action. Sending you this apology with a wish for your long and healthy life”.

The article by India Today was updated and an apology note was added by the editor which said, “An earlier version of this report had said that Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar had passed away. The error is deeply regretted”.

Many news websites stated that Kishori Pednekar is hospitalized, and several state leaders had wished for a speedy recovery to Pednekar.

Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi wished Pednekar a speedy recovery. She tweeted: “Wishing you a speedy recovery Hon. Mayor @KishoriPednekar ji!”

“Wishing Kishori Tai Pednekar a speedy recovery. Get Well Soon,” tweeted Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MP Supriya Sule.

According to the Global Hospital where she was admitted on Sunday, the mayor is suffering from epigastric pain. “Honourable mayor is presently stable and she is under the care of Dr Praveen Kulkarni, senior cardiologist at Global Hospitals, Parel,” said Dr Jigna Shrotriya, medical superintendent at the hospital. A statement from the mayor’s office also said that her condition was stable.

According to a report by Times of India, Mayor was discharged on 20th July, 2021.
