Truth

The viral photograph is photoshopped, and also the hoarding doesn’t belong to Wayanad, Kerala. The hoarding is from the Rangareddy district of Telangana and it is three years old.

Look at the shadow and the white border of the “U” in the surname which clearly is different from all others

Original

You can see the difference between the two “U”s, the one claimed as wrong doesn’t match the shape/font of the original one

Apart from Rahul Gandhi, the hoarding in question features two other prominent politicians, Nalamada Uttam Kumar Reddy (Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President and Member of Parliament – Nalgonda), and Devireddy Sudheer Reddy (Telangana Rashtra Samithi Politician). Since Devireddy Sudheer Reddy was earlier a member of the Indian National Congress Party and both him and Nalamada Uttam Kumar Reddy belong to Telangana, we thought that the hoarding can’t belong to Wayanad, Kerala.

We ran a reverse image search on Google and discovered a three minutes and twenty nine seconds long video on Youtube by a channel called ‘B News Nation‘ that had debunked the viral claim back in August 2018 when it had first surfaced on social media platforms. The video features the original hoarding where Rahul Gandhi’s name is spelled correctly. The video also features a Facebook post from Devireddy Sudheer Reddy confirming that the viral photo is photoshopped to demean Rahul Gandhi.

We also discovered that a Telugu website named Telugu Rajyam had also debunked the viral claim in August 2018. A news report was filed on 15 August 2018 by the website, and the news report explicitly states that the viral image is edited. The news report also contains a photo of the original hoarding. The news report can be accessed here.

Fact-checking news websites such as Alt News and Boom Live had also debunked the viral claim back in April 2019. Therefore, we conclude that the viral image is photoshopped and is just an attempt to mock Rahul Gandhi.
