Claims of Nobel Laureate Tasuko Honjo saying COVID-19 is man-made are false
Claim: “Physiology or Medicine मैं नोबेल पुरस्कार जीतने वाले जापान के प्रोफेसर डॉक्टर टासुकू होंजो ने आज मीडिया के सामने यह बोल कर सनसनी फैला दी…कि कोरोना वायरस प्राकृतिक नहीं है,यदि प्राकृतिक होता तो पूरी दुनिया में यह यूं तबाही नहीं मचाता,क्योंकि विश्व के हर देश में अलग अलग टेंपरेचर होता है,यदि यह कोरोना वायरस प्राकृतिक होता तो चीन जैसे अन्य देश जहां चीन जैसा ही टेंपरेचर है या वातावरण है वहीं दबंगई मचाता,यह स्विट्जरलैंड जैसे देश मैं फैल रहा है…ठीक वैसा ही यह रेगिस्तानी इलाकों में भी फैल रहा है,जबकि यह प्राकृतिक होता तो ठंडे स्थानों पर फैलता परंतु गर्म स्थानों पर जाकर दम तोड़ देता…मैंने जीव जंतु और वायरस पर चालीस साल रिसर्च किया है,यह प्राकृतिक नहीं है…यह बनाया गया वायरस पूरी तरह से आर्टिफिशियल है,चीन की मुहं लेबोरेटरी में मैंने चार साल काम किया है, उस लेबोरेटरी के सारे स्टाफ से में पूरी तरह परिचित हूं,कोरोना हादसे के बाद से मैं सब को फोन लगा रहा हूं,परंतु सभी मेंबर्स के फोन तीन महीने से बन्द आ रहे हैं अब पता चल रहा है कि सारे लेब टेक्नीशियन की मौत हो चुकी है…!

I have researched forty years on animal and virus, it is not natural…it is completely artificial and not natural, I have worked four years in China’s mouth laboratory, fully familiar with all the staff of that laboratory, I’m calling everyone since Coronavirus has started spreading, but all members phone are switched off for three months. I came to know that all the lab technicians are dead now! I can say this with a 100% claim based on all my information and research till date… that the Coronavirus is not natural and it did not spread from the bat, it is made by China. The post has gone viral on social media claiming that Nobel Laureate Tasuko Honjo, has come into the media and made serious statements that the COVID-19 is “created virus is completely artificial”, and that “Corona is not natural and it did not spread from the bat. It is made by China”.

Truth
Upon reading this post, and doing a Keyword search of Tasuko Honjo, it was found that Tasuko Honjo was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine, along with James. P Allison in 2018, “for their discovery of cancer therapy by inhibition of negative immune regulation.”
Then after doing a keyword search of Tasuko Honjo and Coronavirus, there is no media report to where he said what the posts claim on social media. The claims and the statements are serious, and there would have been media coverage if he had said that.
We found a report by ‘The Week’, which was published on 19th April 2020, in which French Virologist and medicine Nobel Laureate Luc Montagnier made the claim that the Coronavirus was man-made in a lab in Wuhan. The article can be read here.
But, according to a report by Live Science, the lab in Wuhan denies that the virus originated there. The vice director of WIV Zhiming Yuan CGTN, the Chinese state broadcaster, said “there is no way this virus came from us,” NBC News reported. “We have a strict regulatory regime and code of conduct of research, so we are confident.”

An article by Kyodo News, wherein it has reported that Tasuko Honjo had said on a television program that, “Japan needs to ramp up PCR tests to detect virus infections to more than 10,000 per day, compared with the current peak of about 7,000 in mid-April — dividing cases up into people with serious, mild and no symptoms.” The article can be read here.
After going through Tasuko Honjo’s profile at Kyoto University Institute for Advanced Study, there is no history of him working in a lab in China.
Hence, the claim that Nobel Laureate Tasuko Honjo said that the Coronavirus was made in a lab in China is false neither is there any history of him working in a lab in China. It is also to be noted that the WHO has denied claims that the virus is man-made.
