On May 17, Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma took to his X account to share a picture of Rahul Gandhi with the claims that he is holding the Chinese Constitution instead of the Constitution of India. He stated in the post, “The original copy of the Constitution of India has a blue cover. The original Chinese Constitution has a red cover. Does Rahul carry a Chinese Constitution? We will need to verify.”

Truth
It has been found that the claims made by Assam’s Chief Minister are false. The Quint found that the book Gandhi is carrying in the photo from the post looks like the Constitution of India (Coat Pocket Edition) by Gopal Sankaranarayanan, published by Eastern Book Company.
Several political figures such as former President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah were also seen with the same edition in various pictures.
