Although many genuine tragic photos, with people in desperate situations from current lockdown, poor traveling on foot etc. are viral but this photo is 3 years old, from Bangladesh, not India.

Viral: A pic of a man carrying a woman on his back while walking on the road is quite viral on all the social media platforms.

Claim: The pic is claimed to be of a migrant laborer who is carrying women and returning back to their cities amid the lockdown enforced due to the COVID-19 outbreak.


The official twitter handle of the Indian National Congress party’s SC wing known as Dalit Congress also tweeted the viral pic.



The tweet by Umashankar Singh (Foreign Affairs Editor, @NDTVIndia, Twice RNG Awards Winner. #MobileJournalism Trainer/Int’nl Awards Finalist. #Satirist.) havebeen retweeted for more than 2300 times, although when someone asked he clarified that he didn’t say this photo was from India.


Srivatsa (Congressman | Politics | Karnataka | Bengaluru | ಕನ್ನಡ | Patriot | Former Techie | Former@INCKarnatakaSocial Media Head | National Campaign in-charge,@IYC) tweeted the same picture along with the group of other images while connecting it with the narrative of migrant laborers returning back to their hometowns from his official twitter handle.

It is an old image dated 8th November 2017  in an international news agency’s article.
