The colonies demolished in Jammu & Kashmir were not of Rohingyas or Bangladeshis as viral on Social Media

A video is being circulated on Twitter stating that the group of officials are demolishing the Rohingy’s colonies situated in Jammu and Kashmir. The caption underneath the video states that ” In Jammu and Kashmir, the colonies which Rohingy@s and B@ngala Deshis had encroached are under bulldozer now!!!” with a watermark of Jammu Links News.

While searching more about the video, with hashtags and keywords, we came across several Facebook pages claiming that the officials are demolishing the Rohingya colonies in Jammu and Kashmir.

 

Truth

The above video is not demolition of Rohingya colonies in Jammu and Kashmir.

While searching for the similar video on YouTube, we came across a video of Jammu Links News and the above video was uploaded on 9th June, 2021 by a twitter handle. In none of the news, Rohingya or Bangladeshis were mentioned.

“The Enforcement Wing of Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA) today carried out a demolition drive at Guptganga Ishaber Nishat, Lashkari Mohalla Foreshore Road, Handam Mohalla Foreshore Road, Baber Shah and Miskeen Bagh Rainawari .

During the drive 03 single storey houses, 01 shed, one plinth and one 2nd storey were demolished despite resistance from the public at many places.”

We searched for the similar video with Jammu Links News watermark, the video was shot while demolishing illegal construction near Srinagar. The demolition was carried out by LAWDA ( Lakes and Waterways Development Authority) drive at Guptganga Ishaber Nishat, Lashkari Mohalla Foreshore Road, Handam Mohalla Foreshore Road, Baber Shah and Miskeen Bagh Rainawari .

 

We also searched for the Jammu Links News on twitter and the video was uploaded on 5th June, 2021. The video was taken while demolishing illegal constructions in various places in Srinagar.
