A video is viral on Social Media especially WhatsApp which shows Muslims are beating two traffic police cops but the text accompanying the video differs and creates doubts and confusion for many. Few claims it to be fresh, from June 2017/October 2017, Few claimed it to be Kolkata/Patna or different city.
Indian Express Publishes “We arrested Shahnawaz (22), his brother and their father Sagir Ahmed (65) on charges of physical assault and stopping a public servant from discharging his duty. Three persons were arrested on Monday for physically assaulting two traffic policemen in Northeast Delhi’s Gokulpuri area on Monday morning, after the officers asked the accused to pay a fine for not wearing helmets. Police said a local also recorded the incident on his mobile phone.
“We arrested Shahnawaz (22), his brother and their father Sagir Ahmed (65) on charges of physical assault and stopping a public servant from discharging his duty. The three, along with a few others, beat up the traffic policemen, Manoj and Jai Bhagwan. A local also recorded the incident on his cell phone,” a senior police officer said.
According to police, head constables Manoj (24) and Jai Bhagwan (51) were manning the Yamuna Vihar traffic signal on Monday. Around 9 am, they spotted Shahnawaz riding a two-wheeler, with his brother riding pillion. Neither were wearing helmets. Bhagwan signalled the riders to stop after which he issued a challan to them.
Bhagwan said, “They were violating the law by not wearing helmets. I stopped them and issued a challan and a fined them Rs 100. But they refused to pay the money. In fact, they said they were locals and, so they did not have to wear a helmet. They said the rules did not apply to them. When I insisted that they pay, they began hurling abuses at me. By then Manoj, who was a little distance away, came over to where I was. They began abusing him as well.”
“The youth then called up their father and other relatives who live nearby in Bhajanpura. Soon, around seven men reached the spot and began attacking us. They pushed Manoj to the ground and began kicking him. They also broke our challan generating machines. Some locals intervened and defused the situation. We then called 100 and police arrived immediately,” he said.
Both Manoj and Bhagwan were sent to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital. They were discharged after treatment, police said. Meanwhile, Shahnawaz, his brother and their father were arrested. Police said the brothers are car mechanics who work in Bhajanpura. Their father is unemployed.
Manoj has been enlisted with the force for the last four years and Bhagwan for the last 35 years, police said. ”
