A misleading letter is viral warning about Social Media posts.

Spread the truth:

A misleading letter seeming to be from a Government Department is viral warning about Social Media posts, post election dates declaration.

The viral letter tells people not to share/send/forward Election campaign related Images/Banners etc to each other.

Truth

The Name “Crime Prevention Council of India” although sounds a government department but is not.
There is no such department by this name in Government. SMHoaxSlayer contacted Special Inspector General of Police (Maharashtra Cyber) Brijesh Singh, who clearly denied. He stated “There is no such organization and no such instructions”

Further, SMHoaxSlayer called up the mobile number on the website, mentioned on the letterhead. The man who picked up the phone called this false and when asked about the name of the signatory , N.S. Chandravanshi, he said “This letter is just his personal view and has been suspended for misusing our letterhead, and all should follow the instructions directly from Election council itself”

Further, the “About Us” section in the website has the following –

Further,
The message is not completely false

Newspaper Jagran Says

Translation:
Public can also not promote
Common men also cannot promote any candidate on big level. They shouldn’t broadcast any message which may lead to disturbance. They told us, on receipt of complain they will take action. DM Kaushal Raj Sharma told that Cyber cell will keep an eye on Social Media”

This last sentence i.e. keeping eye on Social Media is not directly for WhatsApp as it’s highly encrypted. No outsider can read the chats, but in case a member of the group or receiver of message complains with proof i.e. chat, then only the action can be taken.
